From Hysteria to Healing

Understanding Functional Neurological Disorder Through a Psychodynamic Lens

For clinicians, graduate students, and seekers of depth who want to bridge history, diagnosis, and treatment in one workshop.

For clinicians who often sit with symptoms that resist easy explanation, this workshop offers a rare opportunity to deepen your diagnostic confidence and clinical intuition. Whether you’ve struggled to make sense of Functional Neurological Disorder, felt limited by DSM-based formulations, or simply longed for a richer understanding of mind-body symptoms, this session will give you a new framework.

What You’ll Learn:

  • An understanding of how hysteria from Freud’s time has evolved into what we now call DSM5’s Functional Neurological Disorder
  • A scientifically based understanding of the Psychodynamic Diagnostic Manual-3’s nosology
  • The ability to begin using the psychodiagnostic chart (PDC-3) tool for deeper, person-centered psychodiagnosis
  • And most importantly, a more integrated view of how to treat Functional Neurological Disorder psychoanalytically, with nuance and care.

This is for the therapist who wants to go beyond symptoms.
It’s for the graduate student who wants more than a checklist.
It’s for anyone who knows that complexity is not the problem, but the path.
